DIVERSE universities present microcredential cooperation model at MMC 2026

Two higher education institutions from the DIVERSE European University Alliance, Sveučilište Algebra Bernays and Hogeschool PXL, participated in the Micro-Credentials Masterclass (MCMC) 2026, an international event aimed at experts in both the education and the business sector dealing with micro-credentials.

During the event, representatives from the Alliance presented the DIVERSE micro-credential collaboration framework focusing on how micro-credentials can support portable skills through joint learning and teaching. The framework seeks to facilitate effective transnational collaboration while ensuring quality, transparency and mutual recognition among partner institutions.

To support this objective, the Alliance has developed three collaboration approaches for the creation, accreditation and delivery of micro-programmes. In the first model, a single partner institution develops, accredits and delivers the programme, but aligns it with the DIVERSE quality standards and the DIVERSE Policy on Micro-Credentials. In the second model, one institution develops and accredits the programme, while other DIVERSE institutions can adapt and deliver it locally. The third model takes a fully collaborative approach, where several partner universities co-design and co-deliver a shared programme.

Discussions at MCMC 2026 addressed several strategic topics shaping the future of micro-credentials in Europe, including trust in micro-credentialing systems, the portability of skills across countries, the issues of access, equity and global recognition of micro-credentials as well as the growing role of technologies in transforming education and training systems.

Organised by the Knowledge Innovation Centre, MCMC continues to play a key role in shaping the European dialogue on micro-credentials by bringing together policy perspectives, technological innovation and educational practice.
