Master Study Programme in Rehabilitation (MaTeRe)

About the Study Programme

The DIVERSE European University Alliance announces the forthcoming launch of a new Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programme in Technology in Rehabilitation, with the first student intake planned for the academic year 2027/2028, pending accreditation.
The design of the study programme was supported by the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures project MaTeRe, coordinated by Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.

According to WHO, over 2 billion people are living with a health condition that could benefit from rehabilitation in 2024. Need for rehabilitation is going to increase, and unfortunately this need is going largely be unmet. Two reasons for this unmet situation are the lack of trained rehabilitation professionals and lack of resources, including various forms of technology. The use of technology is already strongly visible in the health and welfare sector. To get technology in the right form to the right place, its development and deployment require cooperation and the pooling of different competences. User-driven technology development know-how and design skills should therefore be increased.

The programme will integrate technological expertise within rehabilitation context where every students“ previous education and experience, whether it is from different health and welfare area or technological field, is meaningful. The students with different professional backgrounds when working together will gain diverse perspectives, knowledge and skills for innovating sustainable, ethical, and forward-thinking solutions in rehabilitation. Within student group, engaging research, theoretical knowledge and fieldwork prepare students for leadership and development in rehabilitation technology. Close cooperation with technology companies and organizations, following mega trends in health and welfare technology together with rapid progress of AI and robotics, make sure that students are on the crest of the development waves.
