The Ohm, a member of DIVERSE European University Alliance, celebrated the fourth edition of its Ohm International Summer School in 2026, bringing together participants from 19 countries and offering four distinct courses covering topics ranging from cybersecurity and digitalisation to communication and creative expression.
In the Applied Cyber Defense: From Intrusion Analysis to Incident Response course, participants explored how security professionals analyse and respond to cyberattacks, gaining insights into attacker behaviour and intelligence-driven defence strategies. While this course focused on the challenges of an increasingly digital world, the long-standing Electronic Music Production course encouraged participants to tap into their creative side. Participants learned the fundamentals of sound synthesis and sound design before producing their own electronic music track.
Communication and personal development took centre stage in the Confident and Effective Communication course, where participants strengthened their presentation, feedback, and conflict-management skills through a combination of practical exercises and theoretical approaches. Meanwhile, the Twin Transformation in Business: Digitalization and Sustainable Management in the Circular Economy course addressed the opportunities and challenges of combining digitalisation with sustainable business transformation.
Across all four courses, participants worked with academic and industry experts and enhanced their learning through a variety of excursions. Visits to organisations such as Thomann, Europe’s largest music retailer, and Faber-Castell, one of Germany’s most renowned manufacturers of writing and creative products, provided valuable first-hand insights into the real-world application of the topics covered during the programme.
But the Summer School offered more than academic learning. As Kniel, a participant in the Confident and Effective Communication course, reflected:
“I came here for learning and I am leaving with a lot more than that – memories, experiences and new friends.”

This exchange and sense of connection extended beyond the classroom, as participants experienced Germany and the Franconian region through a rich cultural programme. Excursions to Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, visits to museums, as well as social events such as the International Evening, Game Night, and a reception at Nuremberg City Hall, created opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.
The Ohm International Summer School reflects the value of international and interdisciplinary learning that lies at the heart of the DIVERSE European University Alliance. By bringing together students from different countries, academic backgrounds and perspectives, programmes such as this create spaces for knowledge exchange, intercultural learning and lasting connections.
