The European Commission has confirmed the continued funding allocated to the European University Alliances (EUA) within its proposals for Erasmus+, the European Cohesion Fund (ECF) and Horizon Europe for the 2028–2034 budgetary period. This explicit inclusion reflects the European Union’s firm commitment to the European Universities initiative and its long-term vision for transforming the higher education landscape.
The decision underscores the strategic role played by university alliances across Europe in advancing transnational cooperation, academic innovation and the structural modernisation of higher education on the continent.
Budgetary framework
The new budgetary framework also includes a significant increase in the Erasmus+ budget, which will rise by 50%, from €25 billion to €37 billion. This enhancement strengthens investment in international mobility and talent development, consolidating the programme as a key instrument for training and employability for future generations.
Furthermore, a meeting between Minister Mînzatu’s office and representatives of the FOREU4ALL network played an important role in achieving this milestone, facilitating dialogue and coordination among the various stakeholders involved.
