Algebra Bernays University to Host “Europe Under Pressure” Panel Discussion on Geopolitics, Energy and Business on 3 November, 15:00–16:30 CET

How are geopolitical shifts, energy challenges and security threats shaping Europe’s future? How does political and economic instability affect international business and the competitiveness of the European economy?

These questions will be at the heart of “Europe Under Pressure: Geopolitics, Energy and Business”, an international panel discussion organised by Algebra Bernays University, a member of the DIVERSE Alliance, in cooperation with Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung.

Bringing together leading experts from the fields of European security, international relations, energy and economics, the event will explore how geopolitical shifts and global instability are transforming Europe’s strategic and economic landscape.

The discussion will feature a keynote address by Dr Arnold Kammel, Secretary General of Austria’s Federal Ministry of Defence, who will share his insights into European security and defence policy, international relations and the strategic challenges facing the European Union.

He will be joined by an international panel of experts:  Dr Andreas Rörig, Chairman of the Management Board of E.ON Croatia; Professor Luís Tomé, Professor of International Relations at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Head of the OBSERVARE research unit and an expert in geopolitics and international security; and Dr Vanja Vejzagić, Assistant Professor and Head of the Academic Unit for Economics and Finance at Algebra Bernays University.

The panellists will discuss the relationship between geopolitics, energy security and international business, Europe’s role in a changing global order, and the challenges and opportunities facing the European economy.

Connecting geopolitics and international business

The event will also introduce the academic themes of the upcoming joint International Business and Geopolitics (IBG) programme, expected to launch in the 2027/2028 academic year. The programme aims to bridge the worlds of international relations and business, equipping students with the knowledge and perspectives needed to understand geopolitical developments and navigate complex international markets and strategic decision-making.

By bringing together academic expertise, institutional perspectives and business experience, the initiative reflects the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to understanding the challenges shaping Europe’s future.

For the DIVERSE Alliance, initiatives such as this highlight the role of universities in fostering dialogue across disciplines and sectors, connecting education and research with pressing societal and economic questions, and preparing future generations to engage with an increasingly interconnected and complex world.
